Multiplex Cinema Limited (MCL) was established in 1982 in response to the Group's needs of having guaranteed exhibition outlets for its growing number of film releases, and to maintain direct contact with our sister film distributor company, Intercontinental Film Distributors Ltd.'s (IFDL) ultimate customers the cinemagoers. Currently, MCL operates eight cinema sites - MCL JP Cinema, MCL Kornhill Cinema, , MCL Metro City Cinema, MCL Telford Cinema, STAR Cinema, Grand Windsor Cinema, MCL South Horizons Cinema and Festival Grand Cinema. In addition to The Grand Cinema at Elements at the MTR Kowloon Station (under a partnership with the Shaw Group), MCL has altogether 9 cinemas and 52 screens in Hong Kong.

STAR CINEMA

HONG KONG丨Tseung Kwan O

STAR CINEMA is located at the shopping mall “PopCorn” at Tseung Kwan O MTR Station. It is built with many new features and unique design. One of the design highlights of STAR CINEMA is the “Vortex” found at the foyer ceiling. Through the application of materials with different colors and texture, the ceiling feature gives an illusive ambiance to the audience as if they are traveling from one space of time to another. There are altogether 6 houses with a total number of 622 seats. All houses are equipped with the state-of-art “Infrasonic Sound System”. Some of them are connected to the Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 audio set up and with the supporting of a specially-designed seat, audience can actually feel the vibration when watching the movie as if they were in the real scene. Other unique features of STAR CINEMA include the QR code ticket admission service and a flexible queuing system. It is the first time that such features are being used in a cinema operation for better customer service and convenience.

Opened in March 2016, MCL SOUTH HORIZONS CINEMA is located at Ap Lei Chau. Adopting a “Booth-less Projection” design to reduce the required floor area for the cinema premises, MCL SOUTH HORIZONS is the first cinema in Hong Kong setting a precedent for future cinema development. There are 3 houses with a total of 555 seats, all adopting the design of theatre stairs and unimpaired sightline with spacious leg room, allowing audience a comfortable seating. Promoting Culture and Movie Appreciation through Various Film Festivals. MCL has been promoting film appreciation actively. In the past few years, MCL Cinemas were used as an exhibition platform for various film festivals and programmes. Some of them included “Korean Film Festival” , “STAR Academy”, “Studio Ghilbi Film Festival” , “J-toon Film Festival”, “Gundam Film Festival”, providing a variety of choices to meet audiences’ preferences.

MCL Special Programs

MCL is a pioneer in the local cinema industry and the first cinema circuit exhibiting digital and digital 3D feature films in Hong Kong. Apart from movie exhibition, MCL is also actively bringing alternative entertainment programs to the market for the enjoyment of the audiences. In the past two years, different live broadcasting events have been brought to Hong Kong, including “AKB48 Request Hour Set List 100 Best 2011, “L’Arc~en~Ciel 20th Anniversary Live Concert”, “Hatsune Miku Live in Sapporo”, “Wimbledon Tennis Tournament”, “Beast Christmas Live” and “Exile Tribe Live Tour 2012 Live Broadcast” for pop music fans. In addition, MCL also exhibited a series of recorded live programs ranging from opera and classical ballet performances from the Metropolitan Opera House and the Royal Opera House to a series of concerts such as “3D Ayumi Hamasaki Rock n Roll Circus Tour Final – 7 Days Special:, “Luna Sea 3D in Los Angeles” ,“Super Show 3 Super Junior 3D” and “2012 INFINITE Concert Movie 3D” These live events and recorded live programs were very successful and were well received by a wide range of audiences. In March 2013, MCL collaborated with International Federation of the Phonographic Industry and Cyberport to launch a project called “Music in Cinema” at the MCL Circuit, turning a new page in the digital entertainment industry by broadcasting the first ever local music performance in live, “Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival 2013”
